Jana: Hi and welcome! For new listeners of Bane of Bedlam, what is the first thing you would like them to know about you guys and could you tell me the background of your name?

We are 4 dudes who have been doing this together for over 6 years now, writing and playing the music we want to hear. Our name literally refers to the most vile thing to exist within the most hellish place one could imagine.

Jana: How did you find this genre of music?

We all grew up loving metal and other forms of music, and Bane of Bedlam is what happens when we plug our guitars in. We love the aggression, the movement.

Jana: What lyrical theme does „Bane of Bedlam“ use in their music? And what message do you guys want to send?

The lies and deception forcefed to us all through Corporations, Governement, Politicians, and the media. Its time to wake up!

Jana: Where do you get the inspiration for the songs and how much time do you spend on average for the music practices?

The band itself has become our inspiration. But classic metal albums and amazing music inspires us, as does art and society. We rehearse 5 nights a week together, for 5 or 6 hours. In our little personal time, we practice our instruments alone.

Jana: Do you have any idols?

Artists like early Metallica, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Led Zepplin, and their respective members we do look up to and respect. Anyone who has a dream and works tirelessly to achieve it.

Jana: How would you describe „Bane of Bedlam“ live performance to someone that hasn’t witnessed the band live before?

A flaming wrecking ball of potent energy. Blood, sweat, vomit; relentless energy on stage, fuelled by the crowds energy-its an amazing circle of ever building energy.

Jana: Do you remember your first show and what was it like?

It was awesome! We locked ourselves in our rehearsal studio for 6 months beforehand, and when it came time to play, we levelled the joint! Definitely made an impression there.

Jana: What has been your best concert experience?

Through the countless mosh pits, circle pits, spilled beers, crowd cheers, the playing alongside some classic metal greats, its hard to pick. Nothing beats people screaming your own lyrics back at you though, that is pretty amazing.

Jana: Do you have some special things you are very proud of?

We’re all proud of each other, and every single note we each play. Through all the setbacks, we’ve stayed together and retained the passion that brought us together in the first place.

Jana: What would you say separates „Bane of Bedlam“ from the rest of new and up and coming bands?

Our ever growing hunger and dedication. We rehearse 5 nights a week, and love it. We wouldnt know what else to do. Our aggressive sound and water tight performances show this.

Jana: Can you guys explain the writing/recording process for Bane of Bedlam „Monument of Horror“ Album and how it was different from your last album?

We try to never repeat the same idea twice and keep things constantly moving and evolving. Usually Chris will call me up and say ‚dude I got a new riff‘, or vice versa, we’ll meet up somewhere, I’ll get a feel for it, add my thing, new section/counterpoint/melody etc, then we’ll call it a skeleton. We’ll take the ’skeleton‘ to the studio, get Glen (drums) on board and we’ll eventually turn that into a song. Sometimes in a day, sometimes over the course of a few months. We’ll nut it all out – accents, tempo changes, feel changes (grooves, half times etc), solo sections – then and there, live, in the studio. We’ll record it on some shitty recording device, send it Brad’s way (vocalist) and he’ll get a vocal melody down which he’ll turn into lyrics and give a reference name, like ‚Willem Dafoe‘ for example haha. From then on, its rehearsed flat out until it becomes second nature to play. Its why we’re together-the writing and playing.

Jana: What inspired the album title?

The concept of Religion and Governement being a tyrannical power, with buildings that can be perceived as ‚Monuments‘. And, the horror that they cause…

Jana: Do you guys have a favorite track off the new album? And if so, what track is it and why is it your favorite?

Its hard to choose, but quite possibly the title track – ‚Monument of Horror‘. Its just an unrelenting, aggressive track full of tempo changes and encapsulates where we were at the time.

Jana: Can you tell the fans more about the new album „Monument of Horror“ and how would you describe the music on the album? Also is there a theme on the album or does each song have it’s own theme?

‚ Monument of Horror‘ is 8 tracks of pure speed, aggression, melody, brutality, and feel. Its unrelelnting, its musical, its somewhat of a statement. Everything that is wrong with the world, controversial as it may be, we’ll touch it.

Jana: Do the band members spend much time together in the free time or do you prefer to spend your time separately?

Since 2008 we have lived, worked, and rehearsed together. It can get messy at times, but we all know why we’re here together. To write and play our music together.

Jana: Tell us what scares you?

Chris (guitarist) has an abnormal fear of spiders haha. I guess the powers that be taking away our personal freedoms any more than they already have is a scary thought.

Jana: What was the last thing that made you laugh?

Brad (vocalist) and Chris are discussing Reptillians right now. Plenty of humour in any one of our conversations. For us, anyway.

Jana: What gets you angry?

Lies. Deceit. Corruption. Media. Animal cruelty. Humanities complete disregard for the beautiful natural world in which we live. Millions of acres of beautiful earth, raped and destroyed for capital gain. Fucking disgusts me

Jana: Which Song  from the new album “Monument of Horror” can you recommend us?

Jana: What can the fans expect to see from „Band“ in the future?

Extensive Australian tours/shows/events, another release within the next 6 months, filmclips, guitar/bass/drum playthrough videos, and another album release, hopefully at the beginning of 2015.

Jana: What are your upcoming tour plans?

‚Monument of Horror‘ officially launches worldwide on 21st March, at @The Reverence, Footscray, Australia. From then on, its more local shows and then an extensive east/south/north Australian coast tour (‚Touring the Horror‘), HOPEFULLY followed by some international appearances.
