Jana: Hi and welcome! How are you? 

Ákos: Hi! Fine, thanks!

Hajer: Yo! A bit hangover, but everything is cool!

Jana: What inspired you to make music together? What is your music background? 

Ákos: I was about 14-15 and just saw those guys from Korn, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Machine Head, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, etc. and feel something inside… that omfg I wanna be like them. When I first played on a bass guitar I knew immediately that this is who I am.  With the guys in our band we all wanted to be musicians since we were kids so we playing music for over 12 years. I think somewhere it is a miracle we found each other and become Omega Diatribe.

Hajer: I’m a music-fanatic guy since I borned. I always loved music. When I’m a little child, I made sounds with the tools all day long. So, when I was 9 or 10 years old, my parents bought me my first real instrument, a 6 string electric guitar. After a few month of learning on the guitar, I got my first distortion pedal. Man… I just felt this is the way I want to play in my whole life. Totally killed me… so I still play distorted shits all day long! :=)

Jana: What message do you guys want to send? 

Ákos: Do not give up your dreams. Find friends with the same purposes and attitude, and you could achieve anything together if you stay true.

Hajer: Yeah, you have to believe in yourself and stay true with the society. This is the only real way… I’m sick of all the fake bullshits all around the world. People are loosing his personality and get mad by the media. With rare expections…

Jana: How long have you all known each other? How did you meet? 

Ákos: With guitarists Gergő Hájer and Attila Császár (Csosz) we knew each other from concert events where we all played in other bands, about 12 years ago. We started to play together in 2008 with Hájer and later we found David Metzger from a local band for drums. When Csosz’s old band broke up he joined us too. It was really hard to find a singer who has the vocal sound we imagined for our music, but one day our friend Tamás from Ektomorf introduced us Geri (singer).  So in 2010 Gergely Komáromi became the singer of Omega Diatribe. Unfortunately in 2014 David (drummer) left the band and it took a year to find our new friend and drummer Tommy Kiss.

Jana: Could you briefly describe the music-making process? 

Hajer: Usually I wrote the basic of the songs and we make it perfect with the guys in the rehearsal room.

Jana: What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous? 

Ákos: Generally we make one or sometimes two rehearsals in a week and it’s on the day when everybody has free time after work (mainly it’s a Thursday). We playing the whole set one or two times, and if we have a new track we practice it a few times.

Jana: How would you describe „OMEGA DIATRIBE“ live performance to someone that hasn’t witnessed the band live before?

Hajer: Crazy guys smashing the stage with heavy music and no compromise.

Jana: Do you remember your first show and what was it like? 

Ákos: Yeah! It was at Roham bar in Budapest and the stage was so small I had to stand behind the others, so I had to pay attention to not to hit Csosz with my bass all the time (haha)! Even so it was a great first show with a lot of friends and a lot of curious people!

Hajer: By the way, it was a great show. There’s so many people who were curious us. We supported the Bulgarian Odd Crew guys.

Jana: Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? 

Ákos: Mostly we played every song form IAPETUS. Last time we played 6 songs from IAPETUS and 2 of the new Abstract Ritual EP because we have a new drummer and he is in the learning process.

Jana: What has been your best concert experience?

Hajer: Our ‘Iapetus’ album release party was just crazy as hell. Loads of people, big stage, great sounding and killer lights. Everything that we needed…

Jana: How do you rate your live performance ability? 

Hajer: Ask the crowd. We always made little mistakes but no ones recognize it. Fortunately… But it’s live music you know. Everybody make “mistakes”… and this is the beauty of making live music. By the way we always got awesome feedbacks from the crowd, and this makes us really happy. We try to make the show perfect as much as we can.

Jana: What would you say separates „OMEGA DIATRIBE“ from the rest of new and up and coming bands?

Hajer: Mostly, we stuck on the 90’s-early 2000’s metal scene. The “core” wave is just getting bigger and bigger nowdays. We want to avoid it as far as we can… Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of early hardcore scene, but the metalcore, deathcore and the other core styles are far from my taste. So, we’re try to stay oldschool with some fresh tunes and ideas.

Jana: Can you guys explain the writing/recording process for „Abstract Ritual“ and how it was different from your last album?

Hajer: ‘Abstract Ritual’ is mostly borned on the studio not in the rehearsal room, ‘cuz we didn’t have a fix drummer. The writing process is mostly the same to ‘Iapetus’ but the guys have the work out the riffs on the studio. Maybe it was a harder mission to them, than the latest record. Drums are recorded in Texas, US by Kevin Talley. The other recording stuff was processed on our studio in Hungary. All the audio-engineering things are self-made, made by me. The artwork was made by one of our good tattoo artist friend, Roxy. His mentality is really similar to us so we absolutely satisfied of his art.

Jana: What inspired the album title? 

Ákos: At this time we wanted to follow a classic way, that the album has the same name as one of the songs on it. Abstract Ritual’s lyrics is written by me, and it is based on a story that my uncle Hofmann had told me (haha.. if you know what I mean.). It’s about how I live my life, and trying to change people’s way of thinking. Try to help them and show how to stay positive with others, even if I fall on my face many times.(haha..)  So it’s a really trippy, psychedelic, emotional song and lyrics and also the guys found it really close to them.

Jana: Do you guys have a favorite track off the new album? And if so, what track is it and why is it your favorite?

Ákos: It’s always changing which one is my favorite. Today the song Abstract Ritual is the winner. It’s atmosphere is so special.. brings me in an interesting mood. It shows me that nothing really matters just to enjoy life in the way that it is.

Hajer: At the moment, my favourite track is ‘Abstract Ritual’, but like Akos said, it’s changing… weekly.

Jana: Can you tell the fans more about the new album „Abstract Ritual“ ? Also is there a theme on the album or does each song have it’s own theme?

Ákos: You know, Omega Diatribe has its own theme and it characterize everything around the band. We (humans) are not alone in this world. We are so small, but also the parts of a bigger and meaningful whole thing. With Abstract Ritual we try to show that we doing our things and always making the same mistakes. We learn from it, but even it happens again and again… and one day maybe we go beyond this when we could change our perspective. Then nothing is the same anymore. Do not be afraid to change your mind!

Jana: Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal? 

Hajer: We had a record deal with the Australian Twin Peak Records, but we have to unfold it, ‘cuz the label is dying… So, the ‘Abstract Ritual’ was released as Author’s Edition. We always believe of the DYI things. It’s the most effective…

Jana: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Hajer: We give all of our releases for free in MP3, but who still appreciate the lossless quality or the physical CD, it’s buyable on our online store. Go check it out!

Hajer: Off course, I have some musician idols when I’m a little kid, but even

Ákos: My biggest idol is my father. I have never met a better person.

Jana: What was the last thing that made you laugh?

Hajer: Talking about absolutely fool things with my band mates high on life.

Ákos: That Tool is in the studio finally! A happy laugh!

Jana: What gets you angry? 

Hajer: Fake things, fake people and hypocrite bullshits.

Ákos: Injustice.

Jana: Tell us what scares you?
